[Jewish emigration II]
1 electronic resource (40 pages)
The file contains various diplomatic documents regarding the emigration of Jews from Germany following the Evian Conference of July 1938. The first document is a typewritten “Memorandum” of 3 pages, published in English and dated October 18, 1938, in Berlin. The “Memorandum” presents the newly established “Intergovernmental Committee on Refugees” and suggests a meeting between representatives of both the Committee and Germany in order to discuss details regarding the emigration of Jewish people planned by Germany within the context of its anti-Semitic politics. Furthermore, the file contains a typewritten letter from the French Embassy in Berlin to the German Foreign ministry, dated October 24, 1938, and recommending the Committee’s demand for a personal meeting with German representatives in Berlin. The file also contains two reports by Ernst Woermann (German Foreign Ministry) regarding various talks between Hans Fischböck, the Austrian minister of Finance, Hermann Göring, and several diplomats on the possibilities of a meeting with Robert Pell (Intergovernmental Committee on Refugees) in Brussels. The last document is a report by Ernst von Weizsäcker (German Foreign Ministry) on his conversation with Hjalmar Schacht regarding his article on Germany’s relations with the Intergovernmental Committee on Refugees whose publication in the “Berliner Zeitung” had irritated the German Foreign Ministry.
