The final battle
1 electronic resource (35 pages)
The file contains a report and letters written by Paul Anderson. The report is about the increase of Franz-Josef Strauss power in the Christian Social Union in Bavaria (CSU) and in Germany. The author discribes 'the final battle' as something happening in Germany in the society and within the politicans after 1945. As he argues, nowhere else but in Germany is the belief so deeply ingrained that war is the principal means of politics. Nowhere else are men more inclined to belittle the horrors of war and the disregard its consequences. Nowhere else is love of peace so callouslly identified with personal cowardice. That is why Anderson ask, how the CSU of Bavaria could elect Franz-Josef Strauss as their chairman, the face of a man" whose dream it is to make the German army the strongest army in Europe' (Daily Mail, London), the face of"one of the dangerous men in Europ" (Tribune). The 'final battle' as he puts it, will be between the supporters of Strauss, those who constantly and habitually call for the strong man and those, who hopped that a new democratic style and manner of doing things might develop in the Federal Republic. The letters are regarding some disputes between Evelyn and Paul Anderson and some working colleques of them.
