In 1957 the Yad Vashem administration held an essay competition in which participants were to write about their personal experiences during the Holocaust.
The collection includes 200 of these essays.

ב-1957 ערכה הנהלת יד ושם תחרות חיבורים, שבמסגרתה הוטל על המשתתפים לכתוב על חוויותיהם האישיות בתקופת השואה.
