Magyar Zsidó Levéltár
The Hungarian Jewish Archives were established in 1994, when the predecessor of the institute was moved to its present location, a wing of the Great Synagogue. The collection is made up of several archival collections. The earliest collection came from the first decades of the 20th century when the depopulating rural, small-town Jewish communities’documentary materials were collected. Besides, the collections included the scholarly works and correspondence of renowned rabbis and other public figures and the documents of various Jewish organizations and journals. This work was continued after the Shoah under the leadership of Sándor Scheiber, who established the predecessor of the Hungarian Jewish Archives in 1972. These collections were united in 1994 with the documents of the Pest Israelite Community and Jewish central organizations (National Office of Hungarian Israelites–MIOI, National Representation of Hungarian Israelites–MIOK).
