The file contains several newspaper cuttings from 1905 mostly published by the Hamburgischer Correspondent and announcements, like leaflets regarding the Juden-Massaker in Russia (jew massacre in Russia). The Hamburgischer Correspondent was the oldest political newspaper in the city of Hamburg in Germany. It was highly respected and often cited in newspapers of neighboring countries. It was politically slanted towards the government, national-liberal, but most of the time independent of any political party. The newspaper was published for more than 200 years, but closed down during the Nazi years. This editions report, among other things, on the aid campaigns in Hamburg for the Russian Jews. Aid was collected and attention was drawn to the situation of the Russian Jews. Other publications also report on the pogroms in Russia in 1905. Numerous cities and towns were attacked. Gangs raided Jews, massacred men, women and children, destroyed or robbed their belongings. Christians who wanted to help were also slain. Due to the upcoming winter, help was requested. The aid association of the German Jews continues to report on the donations already received and how they were and will be used on site. The alliance Israelite Universelle also started a fundraising event for the victims of the persecution of Jews in Russia. In addition handwritten letters to and from Aby S. Warburg are attached. In those letters people inform Aby S. Warburg about the situation in Russia and about possibilities to help. Also correspondences with people from all over the world and from Hamburg, regarding efforts to help Russian Jews are attached.
