Archives du département du Rhône et de la métropole de Lyon
Like all the departmental archives, the Rhône Archives were created by the law of 5 Brumaire An V, which required the central departmental administrations to"bring together in the departmental capital all the titles and papers in the repositories belonging to the Republi". Previously, each administration kept its own archives, which meant that they were widely dispersed. The administrative collections were then supplemented by the archives of ecclesiastical establishments, as a result of the confiscation of the property of the clergy (2 November 1789), emigrants and convicts (30 March 1792).
