Max Wertheimer was imprisoned in Buchenwald for two weeks following Kristallnacht. On September 16, 1942, the Wertheimer family was deported to Theresienstadt, where they remained until its liberation in May 1945. They returned to Frankfurt in July and immigrated to the United States in May 1946 aboard the Marine Flasher, the first ship to sail from Europe to the United States under President Truman’s directive on Displaced Persons."@en ;
