When the Germans transferred Jews to the ghetto, they confiscated all currency in exchange for scrip that could be spent only inside the ghetto. The scrip was designed by the Judenrat [Jewish Council] of the Łódź ghetto, and includes traditional Jewish symbols."@en ;
