        rico:history                  "Dr. Donald M. Douglas served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. In 1965, he joined the faculty of Wichita State University, where he was an Associate Professor in the Department of History and Geography. He taught modern German history for thirty-five years, focusing on the Third Reich and the Holocaust. As a member of the U.S. Holocaust Commission, Douglas was an organizer and promoter of Holocaust commemorations in the Midwest beginning in the 1970s. He is the author of Survivors in the Heartland, based on interviews with Holocaust survivors who settled in Kansas. Douglas was the recipient of numerous awards, including the WSU Honors Program Mentor’s Award, the Mid-Kansas Jewish Federation Special Award for unwavering commitment to Holocaust education and the Eisenhower Liberation Award.
