folder 1
Collection of three photographs documenting the ghetto in Łosice, Siedlce Region, Lublin District, Poland, 1942. The three photographs are captioned by hand on back:"Łosic". One of the photographs is also captioned"Siedlce St. during the deportation 194". On the eve of World War II (1939-1945), approximately 2,900 Jews lived in Łosice, Poland, roughly three fourth of the town's population. In December 1940, the Jews of the town were assembled in the ghetto. Many Jews from the surrounding area were brought to the ghetto, and in May 1942, the number of people living in the ghetto reached approximately 6,000. Most of the residents of the ghetto were sent to the Treblinka killing center in August 1942.
