Contains carbon copies of reports recorded in Mauthausen. Includes copies of a nine-page confession of Franz Ziereis, former commandant, detailing daily murder and mistreatment of Mauthausen inmates [per Ziereis] persecuted by other high-ranking Nazi officials, and a with note to his wife including details of atrocities at other camps. Also includes a report, including a handwritten note on the last page, conveyed by inmate and victim Wladislaus Czaplinski, a physician in the camp who was interned in the Camp from 1940 through liberation. His statement details the murder of thousands of prisoners. Also included is letter of recommendation for Irving Rubenstein by his supervisor, Robert Brooks, at the Office of Price Administration in Washington, DC, referencing Mr. Rubenstein's induction into the Army in 1943. Collected by Irving Rubenstein (donor’s father), a US Army officer present in Mauthausen immediately after liberation.
