rico:history "United States Holocaust Memorial Museum"@en , "Egon Feldmann was born on August 17, 1906 in Vienna to Rudolph and Sofie (née Fleischner) Feldmann. Egon was raised by his mother. Egon received a PhD in English and then began medical school. Following the Anschluss, Egon was dismissed from medical school and began to search for ways to leave the country. The father of his girlfriend, Else, agreed to obtain a forged papers for him on condition that he marry his daughter. Egon left for Switzerland in 1939 and completed his last year of medical school in Basel. Egon and Else married in Switzerland. The following year they immigrated to the United States. Sofie, who had managed to immigrate to England, joined them the following year, but she died within a few years from breast cancer. Else and Egon divorced in 1941 and soon after he joined the Coast Guard as a physician. Egon Feldmann married Harriet in 1954. He passed away on October 1, 1984."@en ;
