In October 1941, as a captain in the Red Army, his unit was captured during the Battle of Moscow and imprisoned. He was in several work and concentration camps before being sent on September 18, 1943, to the Sobibor extermination camp. On October 14, 1943, Pechersky led an uprising in the camp, escaping in the woods. He survived the war and returned to the Soviet Union, where he was imprisoned in a gulag. He was released after the death of Josef Stalin in 1953 and spent the rest of his life there, passing away on January 19. 1990."@en ;
