The collection was amassed by Peter Ehrenthal, a Romanian Holocaust survivor, to document the pervasive history of anti-Jewish hatred in Western art, politics and popular culture. Many artists created drawings for it, including Toulouse-Lautrec, Steinlein, and Cappiello. The journal began as a Belle Epoque publication in 1894 under its founder Felix Julien. It was a time of great political and social unrest and the magazine did its best to make fun of them all. The issues in this collection date from the 1894-1899, the years of L'Affaire Dreyfus, a political scandal revolving around anti-semitism that inflamed France. The magazine is one of the more than 900 items in the Katz Ehrenthal Collection of antisemitic artifacts and visual materials."@en ;
