Dehomag D11 tabulator, with miscellaneous parts, of the type used for processing results of the 1933 and 1939 German census during the Nazi regime (1933-1945). Dehomag [Deutsche Hollerith Maschinen] was a German based subsidiary of the US company, IBM. The Hollerith machine was a punch-card system consisting of three components, a punching machine [1990.48.3] that transmitted information onto punch cards, a sorting machine [1990.48.2] that arranged the punch cards by categories, and this tabulating machine that computed the results.
