"A Man, Who Conquered Deat"
folder 1
Consists of a Russian language original, and two copies of an English language translation, of an article entitled"A Man, Who Conquered Death" written in 2007 by Gennadiy Gelfer. In the article, Mr. Gelfer describes the wartime experiences of Mr. Naum Levin, a member of the Red Army who was captured by the Nazis and, as he was Jewish, sent to the Minsk ghetto. There he married, and he and his wife joined the anti-Nazi resistance movement and managed, with other partisans, to escape the ghetto. While hiding in the forests, the Zorin partisan group continued in their attempts to disrupt the Nazi regime. After the area was liberated, Mr. Levin again joined the Red Army and, after being wounded, was sent to the gulag as the officers did not believe that a Jewish man could survive Nazi capture without becoming a spy. Mr. Levin now lives in Troy, NY.
