Mariana Kardos (a.k.a. Mirjam Chanit) was a medical doctor, and worked as an inmate in the revier, in Auschwitz. Following the liberation she was accused, tried, convicted, and sentenced to prison in Cluj (Romania) for mistreating her fellow inmates. The manuscript is her memoir and contains the descriptions of her experiences in Auschwitz and Cluj (Kolozsvár).
