Most of the signatures of the eyewitnesses to the Gardelegen Massacre were placed on the document during a convention of the 102nd Infantry Division Association that apparently occurred not long before a copy of the document was donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives by Oscar Nathans on behalf of the association. According to Mr. Nathans, the document also includes three signatures of eyewitnesses who were not at the convention. The copy was sent to Susan Morgenstein of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Special Exhibitions Department in Sept. 1991. It was transferred first to Jacek Nowakowski of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Collections Department, and then to the United States Holocaust Research Institute Archives in Feb. 1992.
