Madeline M. Deutsch provided the letters to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Collections Department under conditions of temporary custody in May 1991. The Museum made photograph duplicates of the letters and returned the originals to Ms. Deutsch. The Archives received the letters in Hungarian. The Photo Archives made photocopies of the letters and transferred the photographs to the Archives.
