The Military Intelligence Division (MID) was established in the War Department in 1918. It became one of the five General Staff divisions in 1921 and was assigned the additional designation of"G-2" One function of the MID was the maintenance of information files on foreign countries. Documents for the files were collected from a variety of sources in various parts of the world. After the entry of the US into World War II, the sources expanded to included the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the Office of Censorship, and intelligence agencies of other Allied countries.

Consists of selected records from the Regional File containing a wide variety of information about conditions and events around the world with a general span of years from 1922 to 1944. Some materials are dated as early as 1918. Many records from the 1930s and 1940s include Holocaust-related topics such as concentration camps, antisemitism, deportations, racial laws, forced labor, and religious persecution. 
Arranged according to the original agency-assigned alphanumeric scheme. See USHMM introduction to this microfilm for details. Reels are in order by name of country, Belgium through Yugoslavia.
