        rico:history                  "Betty Lauer was born Berta Weissberger on 1 March 1925 in Hindenburg (Zabrze, Poland) to Oskar (1893-1976) and Ilona (1900-1995) Weissberger. She had one sister Eva. By August 1939 Betty lived in Krosno, Poland with her aunt. After the German invasion of Poland, Betty was sent to a forced-labor camp. In 1942 she obtained a false identity card and lived under the name Krystyna Zotkos until the end of the war. Her father immigrated to the United States by 1940. Her mother immigrated to the United States in 1946.
