During the war Paya fled Poland to Siberia taking Russian passports. At some point, Paya ran into the forest and was one of 17 who survived and was sent to forced labor in Siberia doing maple sapping. After the war, in 1947, Paya married Naftali Rosenzweig (b. 1911) who was born in Zamosc, Poland to Israel and Jochewet Rosenzweig and worked as a joiner. They lived in the Landsberg am Lech displaced persons camp and had three children: Israel (b. March 14, 1948), Srulik (b. May 11, 1949), and Chana (b. February 17, 1951). In 1951 the family immigrated to the United States."@en ;
