rico:history "Daisy Kummer (1926-1972) was born Daisy Yvonne Herrmann on February 12, 1926 in Vienna, Austria to lawyer Adolf Herrmann (1880-1947) and his wife Alice (nee Gerber, 1890-1970). Adolf Herrmann was born in Halenkov, Czech Republic, and Alice Herrmann was born in Zolochiv, Ukraine. Daisy had one brother, John Erwin Herrmann (Hans, 1922-2003). John immigrated to the United States aboard the SS Hansa in July 1938, a few months after the German annexation of Austria. Adolf and Alice joined him in the United States in November 1939, sailing from Rotterdam aboard the SS Rotterdam. Daisy was sent to France in spring 1939, where she found refuge at the children’s home at the Chateau de la Guette, a mansion owned by Edouard and Germaine de Rothschild near Paris. La Guette was evacuated in May 1940 to the Hotel des Anglais in the village of La Bourboule. Daisy finally joined her family in the United States in June 1941, sailing aboard the SS Mouzinho from Lisbon.
