rico:history "United States Holocaust Memorial Museum"@en , "Roman Antoniak was born in Lwow, Poland (L'viv, Ukraine) on 10 May 1926. Following the German invasion of the Soviet Union, Antoniak was hired as an apprentice at the Ostdeutsche Email und Metall Werke in Lwow in January 1942, and was enrolled in the Ukrainische Hilfskomitee in October of that same year. He was arrested by the Germans at some point in 1944 and transferred by the Gestapo in Kattowitz (Katowice) to the Auschwitz concentration camp on 11 May1944. He was released in January 1945, as the camp was evacuated, and put in the Ukrainian Division. He was captured as a POW by the British Army, and in 1948, after he had been released, he went to Scotland, where he settled."@en ;
