Simmonds family collection
box oversize folder 1 1
Consists of correspondence, documents, and photographs documenting the Holocaust experiences of the family of Traute Simmonds, who spent the war in hiding in France. Includes correspondence between Traute's father, Otto, a German-born physician, and brother Steffen, both of whom perished at Auschwitz, as well as a note from a railway worker who found a letter written by Otto while on the train to Auschwitz. The majority of the documents show the extensive restrictions placed on Jews living in France and the collection also includes photographs of the Simmonds family. Also includes two Simmonds family Stammbuchs (one of the family of Henry and Johanna Simmonds, and one for their son, Otto, and his family), the 1887 marriage certificate of Henry and Johanna, a clipping announcing the marriage of Otto and Marta (Marthe), a copy of Traute's birth certificate, and a letter to Marthe alerting her that a death certificate for Steffen Simmonds has been issued.
