In his memoir, Mr. Shipper describes his childhood in Łódź, his memories of life in the Łódź ghetto, and his forced labor in a metal factory, where he worked until July 1944. He was deported to Auschwitz then to a series of camps, including Stutthof. At the end of the war, he was sent on a forced march and ended up being placed on a barge near Neustadt, witnessing the accidental British bombing of another boat also containing prisoners.
