He departed on the Pan American Airways Phillippine Clipper from Manila, Phillippines on October 8, 1938 and arrived at Alameda airport in California on October 20, 1938. His wife, Margaret, died of pneumonia, on December 26, 1937. They had two children, Elizabeth and Joanne. Monson was born in Preston, Idaho and lived in Salt Lake City, Utah and Carson City, Nevada prior to living in California. He was a Mormon. In March 1939, Dr. Monson gave a\"travel tal\" at the Athletic Club in Oakland, CA titled,\"India, Siam, and the Holy Lan\" with his color motion pictures."@en ;
