rico:history "This section was created in June 1940 in the city of Akkerman to supervise archival institutions in the Akkerman region, which was renamed (7 December 1940) the Izmail region pursuant to the transfer of the administrative center from Akkerman to the city of Izmail. It was liquidated in February 1954 after the merging of the Izmail and Odessa regions."@en ;

Included are chronologies of the German-Romanian occupation of population centers of the Izmail region; these contain information on instances of mass killings of Jews, toward whom the occupiers harbored “a particularly horrifying hatred,” including in Akkerman (from 1944 on, Belgorod-Dnestrovskii), the towns of Artsiz, Kiliia, Tatarbunary, and Tarutino, and the villages of Briiany, Manzur, Novyi Fershampenuaz (Artsiz district), Sarata, and Shabo (1946). A number of documents indicate the names of victims. There are also lists of persons having served the occupation authorities and having abetted them in carrying out of the policy of terrorizing civilians.
