Zelf kwam hij in februari 1940 op voor zijn nummer, in Haarlem en Overveen. In dit interview vertelt hij dat 1942 zijn rampjaar was: hij verloor in een paar maanden tijd zijn moeder door ziekte en zijn vader in Auschwitz. In het interview gaat hij hier nader op in en ook op hoe hij de mobilisatie-tijd heeft beleefd, wat zijn verwachtingen waren van de oorlog met Duitsland. Uiteindelijk is deze man beroepsmilitair geworden en na de oorlog nog naar Indië gegaan, waar hij op Midden-Java deelnam aan de politionele acties.
