Na de oorlog wilde hij naar Nederlands Indië omdat hij geïnspireerd was door de Amerikanen en Canadezen die Nederland bevrijd hadden. Om naar Indië te kunnen, moest hij beroepsmilitair worden. Hij vond de tijd in Indië een gouden tijd. Jaren later ontmoette hij prins Bernhard die kennis had over zijn activiteiten tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog en hij werd in 1976 door hem gevraagd voorzitter te worden van het veteranenlegioen. Dat heeft hij zes jaar gedaan. Hij kijkt met veel plezier en dankbaarheid terug op deze eerste jaren van veteranenactiviteiten in Nederland, die geleid hebben tot de waardering die er nu is voor veteranen."@nl ;
