Vanaf 1933 was het ministerie van Economische Zaken primair verantwoordelijk voor de buitenlandse handelspolitiek: in de periode daarvoor was dat het ministerie van Buitenlandse zaken. Het archief is volgens de standaard archiefcode geheel op onderwerp geordend. Verreweg het meest omvangrijk is de rubriek 'Economische aangelegenheden', waarin onder meer stukken over de industrie, de dienstverlening, de binnen- en buitenlandse handel, de distributieregeling, de instelling en het functioneren van de rijksbureaus. Ook bevat het archief stukken over joodse vluchtelingen en Duitse bezettingsmaatregelen tegen joodse bedrijven.Gedeponeerd bij het archief zijn stukken van minister M.P.L.
