rico:history "Directorates were created on the basis of the Basarabian administration regulations of November 29, 1917, approved by the Sfatul Ţǎrii. In 1920 the directorates were transformed into general secretariats of Bessarabia, which, depending on necessity, functioned till March 1921. After that they were again reorganized into directorates. The basic functions of the directorates were to oversee the activity of the local public administration structures, institutions and organizations in the region.
