In 1864, a new charter of the gymnasiums was adopted. The director was appointed at the head of the secondary schools/gymnasiums. The main contingent of gymnasium students were the children of noblemen, bureaucrats, and the clergy.
In the interwar years, the Directorate was subordinate to the Ministry of Education and Cults of Romania.
В 1864 году был принят новый устав гимназий. Во главе средних учебных заведений стояли директора. Основным контингентом учащихся гимназий были дети дворян, чиновников, духовенства. Директориат подчинялся Министерству просвещения и культов Румынии.
