Telex message (and fitting control slip number 50412 of the message) from Main Security Office (SD-Hauptamt), department II 22, to SD-Oberabschnitt (Superior District) Rhein, concerning [Paul] Gieseke and Schmitt. The message is signed by [Werner]Braune, SS-Untersturmführer (Junior Storm Leader). [Paul] Gieseke went to the State Secretary of the Ministry of Education - by order of the Academic Senate of the University of Marburg – regarding the conference on Jews in Berlin organized by Schmitt. [Paul] Gieseke held the following arguments: a) Schmitt fiercely attacked the Jew Erich Kaufmann at the conference. But while he was teaching in Bonn, he trusted Kaufmann with reviewing and giving his opinion on Schmitt's manuscripts prior to publication. b) Still in spring 1933 Schmitt had been inviting Jews to gatherings in his house. This man does not seem to be the right one to lead the struggle against Jewry. There needs to be made a complete report about Schmitt to the Reichsführer SS. Therefore it is necessary to contact Professor Gieseke in a very careful way and try to get documents from him about the statements mentioned above. It's up to the Oberabschnitt (Superior District) to decide in which way they inform Prof. Giesecke about the secrecy that needs to be applied. The whole matter is very urgent.
