[Nazi Justice Trial Transcripts]
1 online resource (5 pages)
The file contains the verdict of Josef Pontiller (born on 4 November 1889 in Görisch-Stribach), a Catholic priest from Austria. The main evidence in the case against Pontiller was a letter to an abbot in which he criticized the Nazi regime. For instance, he wrote that Hitler had no pity with his people and that he felt entitled to take down Europe with him. Furthermore, he criticized the murder and incarceration of religious people by the Nazis and how churches were being plundered. Pontiller was considered by the Nazis as a traitor. In order to protect the empire, it was deemed necessary to punish such treason with death. He was found guilty in Berlin in December 1944 and executed in Munich February 1945.
