The file is a 2 page typewritten summary on the history of Jewish cemeteries in Festenberg & Praunitz (Silesia) by Dr. Alfred Grotte. It mentions 42 Jewish settlements in the region during the 17th to the 18th century. Only a few were big and affluent enough to acquire land for a cemetery. Even Breslau received its cemetery in 1761. At the end of the 18th century it became more common to have a cemetery nearby mostly in forested areas or land that was unsuitable for agriculture. It is mentioned that more than 1000 graves where recorded from the cemetery in Zuelz (Upper Silesia) under the supervision of Rabbi Bernhard Brilling of Breslau. The summary gives a description of the cemeteries in Festenberg and Praunitz. Alfred Grotte specialized in Jewish culture and synagogue architecture with a special focus on Silesia. Aware of the danger of the Nazi rise to power he created a collection catalogue of 1200 important objects. He was deported and died in Theresienstadt.
