rico:scopeAndContent "The file is a memoir of Adolf Peritz, born December 13th, 1865 in Meseritz on the border to Poland. He was raised by his single mother and became an educator. First he worked at an orphanage established for Ukrainian orphans in Berlin after a Progrom in 1880/81. After three years he became “inspector” (director) of the Jewish Orphanage in Königsberg (Kaliningrad), which he led for more than 40 years. He tells about his work as an educator and other duties he held in the Jewish community. He mentions his good relation with Dr. Lassar-Cohn and other members of the community. He retired in the early thirties and moved to Berlin to be closer to his children. In 1934 his children decided to move to Palestine and after a summer vacation in Montreux he and his wife joined them and lived in Ramat Haschawim. He became a chicken farmer and was active in the community. He talks about the economic difficulties of the time. After his wife’s death (the first one to be buried at the local cemetery) he continued his work at the farm, but his last years he spent in the retired people community Beth Horim in Achuza, Haifa, where his memoir ends."@en ;
