The file is the fourth part of a series of files containing documents on the situation of Jews in Bulgaria during its time as an Ally of Nazi Germany. This file contains diplomatic correspondence between the German Foreign Ministry, the Reich Main Security Office (“Reichsicherheitshauptamt”, RSHA) , and the German representatives in Sofia regarding the treatment of Jews in Bulgaria. Written between February and June 1943, the documents include mostly letters and reports. Among them are reports on a conversation with Alexander Belev on the deportation of Jews from Bulgaria, a report on the position of the Bulgarian minister of the Interior, Petar Gabrovski, regarding the deportation of Jews; a report of “Unterstaatssekretär” Martin Luther; reports on the deportation of Jews from Macedonia and Thrace (one report by Arthur Witte, German Consul in Skopje); a note by Joachim von Ribbentrop on his conversation with Bulgarian Tsar Boris III; reports on international initiatives for the emigration of Jewish children to Palestine, and a report of Adolf-Heinz Beckerle on the deportation of Jews from Bulgaria written in June 1943.
