"The file is the fifth part of a series of files containing documents on the situation of Jews in Bulgaria during its time as an Ally of Nazi Germany. This file contains diplomatic correspondence between the German Foreign Ministry, and the German representatives in Sofia regarding the treatment of Jews in Bulgaria. Written between August 1943 and August 1944, the documents include mostly letters and reports. Among them are an undated and translated declaration by the Bulgarian Minister of the Interior of Bulgaria, Petar Gabrovski, accusing Menahem Leon Papo for the attack on Kuncho Janakiev in 1943; a typewritten report by Horst Wagner from the German Foreign Ministry on the Bulgarian official position regarding Germany’s plan to deport all the Jews from Bulgaria; various documents regarding international initiatives for the emigration of Jews to Palestine; various documents on the Bulgarian official politics regarding the Jews; a telegram from a German diplomat in Sofia on the cancellation of anti-Jewish laws by the Bulgarian Council of Ministers in August 1944."@eng .
