1 electronic resource (47 pages)
The file contains a copy of the booklet “Henry Ford must choose” published around 1941 by the “Friends of Democracy”. The copies were made from an original of poor quality. The book intends to show how the German Nazi propaganda uses Henry Ford’s publications for their anti-Semitic purposes. The book documents the anti-Semitic stance of both the newspaper “The Dearborn Independent” and the book series “The international Jew” by showing examples of headlines and articles published by the “The Dearborn Publishing Co.” owned by Ford. In the same way, the book traces their later use by Nazi propaganda publications. Besides the documenting part, the book contains two texts, one by the poet Robert E. Sherwood and one by the founder and National Director of the “Friends of Democracy”, L.M. Birkhead. Sherwood explains how much Henry Ford represents the United States, and therefore, his distancing from anti-Semitic views would be important for the country’s international standing. Birkhead calls Henry Food to publicly dissociate himself from anti-Semitic viewpoints and from the Nazi’s use of his publications.
