The file contains Photocopies of newspaper articles, Photos, correspondences and handwritten speeches regarding Jews in Plauen. Plauen is a town in the Free State of Saxony, east-central Germany. The town is situated near the border of Thuringia, Bavaria and the Czech Republic. In October 1921, one of the first local groups of the National Socialist German Workers Party (NSDAP) outside of Bavaria was founded in Plauen. The Hitler Youth (Hitler Jugend) had organized and established quickly in Plauen. The citizens of Plauen have sent letters of apology to Jewish families and communities. In these letters, they asked for forgiveness for the atrocities committed by the people of Plauen to the Jews in the Nazi era. Furthermore they apologize for the silence of the city after the war. The addresses of the people who signed the letters are also attached. Newspaper articles inform how former Jewish citizen of Plauen have build a memorial stone for victims of the holocaust. They have come together under the name SAKIF (Secher Kahilat Jehudei Plauen- Bund ehemaliger jüdischer Plauener). Also non Jewish citizens of Plauen contributed in this project. Also the Jewish Herald reported about this event, it is entitled as: Plauen: A people remembered. Also other newspapers report about the remembrance culture in and around Plauen. Pictures show the memorial stone with German and Hebrew engraving.
