Synopsis (magazine Vol. 5)
1 electronic resource (51 pages)
The file contains the 5th Volume of the Synopsis magazine of 1944. Synopsis is a quarterly selection of abridgments from contemporary publications. 96 pages of collected articles which have been published before in several magazines. Subjects of the articles differ a lot from each other but always hit the mark of the time. Just to give some examples: 'The Potrait in Italy' by David Scott Daniell, or 'Prisoner of War' by Captain Robin Campbell, who was taken prisoner on the commando raid which tried to capture Rommel's headquaters. He explains, based on his own experiences, how it feels to be prisoner of war. Or the 'Horse Brass Collecting' by Authur Turner, where he reports about the faked horse-brasses on the market, 'Public Benefit in Private Enterprise' by Donavan Touche, where he claims that our position in the world owes more to the individual Briton than to the government. Also the 'Infants without Families' by Dorothy Burlingham, in which she state the case for and against residential nurseries from observations collected during practical educational work in their homestead nursery and an article 'What is a Soviet Millionare?' by Bryan Tannser can be seen. Bryan Tannser reports that contrary to popular mythology in the outside world, Soviet Russia is anything but egalitarian in privat incomes. The inequalities of Soviet money incomes have been inceasing and are now very strinking, so he argues.
