rico:scopeAndContent "Testimony of Motl Greier, 19 year old yeshiva student, son of a leather merchant, from Markuszów, by Lublin. He reports that at the beginning fo the war he was at his parents' home, in Markuszów, and left it for Lublin. The heavy bombardment of German planes destroyed the town almost entirely with incendiaries. From Lublin he set out on his way to Lukow which was under Russian control. He describes antisemitism and anger toward Jews among the Polish population specifically because they welcomed the Soviet army. He recounts an account of a man he met on the road concerning the fate of Lukow's Jewish population, which was largely deported to a detainee camp on Ostrow Mazowiexcka, and held there without food. Many people were shot under small pretenses, even if they did not attempt to flee. When the Russians were leaving the area they urged the Jews to flee, causing a large part of the Jewish youth to leave the area. The author arrived in Brisk, where he met several of his student friends, as well as a cousin who had been part of a Polish cavalry regiment. He tells of how most of the regiment was dead, and the Jewish soldiers were hiding in an attempt to acquire civilian clothing. From Brisk the author went to Pinks, which did not suffer much in the war, and joined Beit Yossef yeshiva, with which he arrived in Vilnius. Protocol No. 32 is an extract from a volume of protocols /statements provided by a group of Polish-Jewish refugee writers and journalists who fled to Vilnius, Lithuania.
