Note of the chief of staff of the SS and Police leader in Cracow from 27.7.42 about a meeting dealing with the deportation of Jews from Przemysl. The note states which Jews remain as forced laborers. The note reveals an incident that"endangere" the deportations. Military commander Liedke closed a bridge by deploying Wehrmacht troops to stop police from crossing. Fellenz went to Przemysl to understand and solve the problem. The meeting revealed a conflict between Wehrmacht and SS about the deportations as the Wehrmacht feared to loose to much forced laborers. On July 26, 1942, Battel, in consort with his superior, ordered the bridge over the River San to be blocked for SS and police. Still later that same afternoon, an army detachment under the command of Oberleutenant Battel broke into the cordoned-off area of the ghetto and took 100 Jews and their families to the barracks of the local military command. The note states the comromise that was found and in the end it reports about the deportation of 3850 Jews on 27.7.42. The file also contains the letter of the security police department in Przemysk reporting in detail about the blocking of the bridge. The file also contains a complain of the SS to the Wehrmacht about the closure of the bridge. It states that Wehrmacht lieutenant Battel who took Jews from the ghetto, is considered a friend of the Jews. The file contains the letter of the head of the security police department Pryzemysl, Benthin that informed about the closure of the bridge. Other documents also report about the incident. A report reveals the argument about the establishment of a Wehrmacht ghetto initiated by Battel where the Jews are under military custody. Further documents are about the secret investigation that was started against Battel. Prior friendly behaviour towards Jews was found. Himmler and Bormann got involved in the investigations.
