Protokolle der Weisen von Zion; Newspaper clips IV
1 electronic resource (119 pages)
The file contains several newspaper clippings from different newspapers published in Switzerland, Germany and England. The newspaper cuttings and cartoons are regarding the Bern Trial specifically the 'Protocols of the Elders of Zion' (Der Prozess um die"Zionistischen Protokoll"). The newspaper clippings collected from thes days are particularly about the Bern trail Judgment of 1937 and about Boris Tödtli. The Swiss citizen Tödtli was an admirer of Hitler's Germany and was suspected to be a spy. A trial against him and Fleischahauer was prepared. The clippings in this file show evidence of his work for the Nazis in Germany. Furthermore newspaper clippimgs inform about the Jewish position in Switzerland. As one has always associated Switzerland with a complete absence of anti-Semitism, but the violence of the Nazis at Zürich must have caused some people to revise their judgement. On the other hand, as the 'Protocols' trails have shown, there is a genuine desire on the part of the government to suppress anti-Semitic activities. The authors asked 'why should there be any anti-Semitism in Switzerland at all, as for Jews there is only a number of 24.000 out of a total population of 4 millions, and even that number represents an increase of only four thousand in 16 years. That there is anti-Semitism only serves to show what a thin dividing line there is between tolerance and intolerance, persecution and liberty, even in the democracies. With the judgement in 1937 the court wanted to make sure, after the misrepresentation in Germany of the judgment of 1935, that there was not even the smallest evidence of proof for the authenticity of the 'protocolls'. In addition photographs and advertisments can be seen in this file.
