It contains a sometimes supportive critique of National Socialism, harassment and interrogations by the Gestapo, arrest and protective custody. From these traumatic events the author finds explanations for the purpose of suffering and spiritual rebirth from catastrophes like war. The eternal wisdom and strength of the bible are used for guidance and comfort. Theological discussions with representatives of all social classes are included.
