השלטון בגרמניה הנאצית שלל את אזרחותם של אזרחים גרמנים שהיגרו מחוץ לגרמניה ומתחו ביקורת על המשטר. שלילת האזרחות לוותה גם בהחרמת רכושם, דבר שהפך רבים מהם (שנמלטו מגרמניה בלי שהספיקו למכור את הרכוש) לחסרי כל. רשימות אלו שאזרחותם נשללה פורסמו בבטאון המדינה הרשמי Deutscher Reichsanzeiger. הרשימה הראשונה פורסמה ב- 25 באוגוסט 1933 והאחרונה ב- 17 באפריל 1945. סך הכל בכלל הרשימות 39,006 איש, שהיוו את רוב העלית האינטלקטואלית והתרבותית של גרמניה בטרם עליית הנאצים לשלטון.
באוסף כרטסת של אזרחים גרמנים שאזרחותם נשללה בין 1933 ובין 1935. בכרטסת שמות יהודים רבים וכן אנשי שמאל וביניהם אמנים, סופרים ועיתונאים.
עותקים של כרטסות מסוג זה (הנוגעות לשנים שונות) נמצאים במספר ארכיונים בגרמניה (וגם באוסטריה לגבי השנים שלאחר 1938), ב-Deutsche Nationalbibliothek ב-Leipzig, וכן גם במשרדי מינהל גרמניים, לצורך בדיקת בקשות של צאצאים לקבלת האזרחות מחדש. העותק השלם ביותר של הכרטסת מצוי ב-Bundesverwaltungsamt ב-Köln. הרשימות גם פורסמו בשלושת כרכי הספר Michael Hepp (Hrsg.): Die Ausbürgerung deutscher Staatsangehöriger 1933 – 45 nach den im Reichsanzeiger veröffentlichten Listen,(engl.: Expatriation Lists as Published in the „Reichsanzeiger“ 1933– 45), eingeleitet von Hans Georg Lehmann und Michael Hepp, 1985 –1988..

The Nazi regime in Germany revoked the citizenship of German citizens who emigrated from Germany, and criticized the regime. Revocation of citizenship also meant confiscation of property, an action which turned many of the emigrants (who had escaped from Germany without managing to sell their property) into people with nothing at all. The lists of those whose citizenship had been revoked were published in the\"Deutscher Reichsanzeige\", the official State publication. The first list was published on 25 August 1933, and the last list on 17 April 1945. All together the lists contained the names of 39,006 people, who represented most of the intellectual and cultural German elite before the Nazi rise to power.
In the collection there is a card catalogue of German citizens whose citizenship was revoked, 1933-1935, including the names of many Jews, as well as leftists, among them artists, writers and journalists.
Copies of card catalogues of this type of card (relating to various years) can be found in a number of archives in Germany (as well as in Austria for the years after 1938), in the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek in Leipzig, and in German administrative offices for use in investigating requests by descendants for reinstatement of citizenship. The most complete copy of the card catalogue is in the Bundesverwaltungsamt in Cologne.
