Documentation from 1977-1991 regarding the awarding of the title,"Righteous Among the Nation" to people who rescued Erich Kulka and his son Otto Dov Kulka in 1945 Documentation regarding the rescuers of Erich Kulka and his son Otto Dov Kulka after their escape from the train that halted in the Czech city of Moravska Ostrava during the night between 24 and 25 January 1945. Erich and Otto Dov Kulka and other inmates were being deported on a transport to the Mauthausen camp. Immediately after their escape, Erich Kulka made contact with Vaclav Juran, a friend from the days when Kulka was active in the underground in Vsetin, his hometown. Afterwards, they found a hiding place with another friend, Karel Frydl, in the village of Liptal, near Vsetin. Some time later, they were hidden by Jan Tkadlecek and his family in the village of Zlin, where they remained until the liberation. The rescuers Vaclav Juran, Karel Frydl and three members of the Tkadlecek family (the father, Jan, his wife, Anna, and their son Bohuslav) were recognized as Righteous Among the Nations on 02 January 1969. Ceremonies in their honor were held at Yad Vashem during the 1980s.
