Documentation regarding the confrontation with Hermann Langbein, 1983-1987 - Part III In 1972 Hermann Langbein, a political inmate of Austrian origin, published a book entitled"People in Auschwit". In his book, Langbein claimed that Sonderkommando inmates working in the Birkenau gas chambers allegedly carried out necrophilic acts on women murdered in the Birkenau gas chambers. Langbein included this claim in his book on the basis of the testimony of Yehuda Bacon, who was an adolescent boy of 14 in Birkenau. Over the years Erich Kulka and some of the Sonderkommando men confronted Langbein and Yad Vashem in order to effect the removal of these words from his book. Kulka corresponded with Yad Vashem, which had recognized Langbein as a Righteous Among the Nations, and even invited Langbein to one of the scientific conferences on Nazi concentration camps, as well as due to the fact that Yehuda Bacon's testimony had been given to Yad Vashem and is kept in the Yad Vashem Archives.
