Announcements to the population issued by Rumkowski in the Lodz Ghetto: Announcement Number 348, dated 01 January 1942 reiterating Rumkowski's assurance that ghetto residents may go to work without fear of being fired on from the fence Rumkowski reiterates his assurance from 25 December 1941 that is no reason to fear being fired on from the fence by the Germans; ghetto residents may now go to work in safety; the incident on 29 December 1941 during which a man was shot to death occurred because the Germans suspected the man of being a smuggler.
